R.A.- They are good machines. A lot of us have gone with ATA/IDE controller cards... various ones with varying amounts of success. The VST card is a good one if you want to go with a cheap ATAPI cd burner.
I wanted to use striped HDs when I got my VST Ultratek 66 controller card with SoftRaid. I was considering it until I went with OS X. SoftRaid would not work with it and their OS X version won't work with OS 9... Whatever you do, a new HD will give you a noticeable performance increase over the stock HD. I haven't heard of anyone striping drives on this list, with the possible exception of Mr. Walther. OS X has native RAID support, but I'm not sure how good it is. If you're serious about it you might want to go with one of the cards that support hardware RAID- just make sure they're OS X compatible. You'll probably want that option if you're spending the money now... I put a SCSI burner in mine to go along with an internal Apple CD drive. The stock internal cd reader is one of the SuperMac's weaker points. Have fun -Ford On Monday, July 15, 2002, at 10:57 PM, R.A. Cantrell wrote: > This seems to be a sweet box.
