-Robyn -- Actually, I remember when there was only one choice, Black Rotary. Well, you COULD choose party line or private line. The phone was hard wired into the wall (and the phone) and the customer was not supposed to TOUCH the wiring. (But the phone company came out and fixed any problems for no additional fee.) The next big thing was COLOR, and you had to pay a monthly fee for a color phone. I'm a little too young to remember when there was no dial . . . , well actually there were some rural areas that still had the old central office that connected you to your party.
