Sorry Nancy. If it helps, we still have party lines in my area. Although we are not supposed to. In my area, there is this problem where the switch will not disconnect fully. If someone else happens to get on the same circuit, your phone will ring back and the other person will be taking to you, no matter the number they dialed. The monopoly doesn't sound quite so bad now. I know people who still use rotary phones too (i'm sometimes one of them)
