i would guess that you're probably best off using the drivers from 8.6,
there could easily be a conflict with the old drivers.  also, how do you
have it connected?  the printer may be expecting apple talk and the
computers port still set for regular serial or vice versa which has done
similar things to me with an old imagewriter.
