Do you mean initialize a CDRW (rewritable) disk? I used the Finder the few times I used RW disks. So, when the initialize dialog pops up use that, it takes a while to format, but it's fine. Toast will work too. I actually don't like RW disks, too slow, too expensive, and with the cost of CDr's, I just use them instead.
