Following is from OWC Larry's weekly e-mail newsletter dated Friday, August 30:
'At MacWorld, Sonnet released their new G4/800MHz Upgrade card for the PowerMac 73/75/76/85/86/95/9600s and compatible clones. This is the FIRST G4 upgrade speed boost for Pre-G3 Macs in over a year! According to a Sonnet sales rep yesterday, those upgrades have just now begun to ship and we expect to see stock sometime next week. As it is, a 450MHz G4 makes a huge difference for any of legacy Mac models and I expect the 800MHz to take things to a whole new level. Assuming they have shipped, next week we should have some good comparative testing to show you. G3 Upgrades start from about $119, G4/450MHz upgrades from $229, and the Sonnet G4/800MHz is $395." Personally, I have had pretty good experience buying from OWC, but I also have good experience purchasing from Buy.com who is selling the same card for $367. http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10329207&loc=101 I have no experience with the following but all are less than OWC (before shipping) computers4sure.com eCost.com Tech Depot Solutions4Sure Dave Stephens > Message-Id: <a04310100b998908d7439@[199.170.89.29]> > In-Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Date: Sun, 1 Sep 2002 23:01:24 -0500 > From: Jeff Walther <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: Re: [SM] Sonnet G4-800 PCI > > Sonnet claimed the product would ship in August, but at least one > list member has mentioned that they haven't seen any product yet -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
