Hi,
I just replaced the original Toshiba 12x cd which came with my Pulsar to an Apple
(Matsushita - or something like that) 24x cd with no problems. The cd extension which
I have always used is the Charismac - CD-ROM Extension V1.591 - which is part of
their Discribe cd burning software but is available as a free download - or perhaps
used to be as I haven't checked for a while - drives my Traxdata cdrw as well. With
this extension all three of the cd drives I have used are bootable. I'm running 9.1 by
the way on a 200 604e and lusting for the Sonnet 800 which I may buy next month.
A point to note is that the sound plug for the Toshiba has only three pins
(L-G-R) where the Apple and the Traxdata have four pins (L-G-G-R) so a new connector
is required to play sound from either of these (I haven't got either connected for
sound) but this may only apply to the Pulsars supplied with the Toshiba drive -
further info anyone?
I bought the Apple from Ebay UK for 5 GBP - very reasonable and 15 minutes to
swap.
Most scsi drives will take the mac drivers - I just installed a Seagate 9 gig
7200 80 pin scsi in a friend's 7500 with no problem. I can get them brand new for 28
GBP or 14 GBP for a 4.5 gig which is the size I am using for a raid installation
shortly - or when I get around to it as I start teaching next week and daren't upset
my system until all the paperwork is output.

     Pete in the UK
