Hi John, Welcome to the Supermac List.
I don't know if I can be of a lot of help, as we have a UMAX c600. Check under the System Profiler (located under the Apple Menu in the upper left corner of the screen) to see if it will tell you what brands of cards are installed. It will also tell you how much RAM is installed, and other useful stuff. You may have to look inside your machine to figure out what brand Ethernet card you have installed. In any case, you probably need drivers to get the card functioning. Asante was a popular addition to the UMAX. You will find Asante's drivers here <http://www.asante.com/support/index.html> I don't know what to tell you about the buzzing and whining sounds. Maybe someone else will offer a suggestion. As for you clock not keeping track of time, that usually means you need to replace the PRAM battery. I don't know how comfortable you are poking around inside the machine. You can remove the battery, and take it with you to just about any Radio Shack or big computer parts store, and buy a replacement. You can also buy them from online vendors too. Although the manual for your system may or may not be useful to you, if you did not get one with the machine, speak up. Someone on the list will probably be nice enough to email you the PDF version. This is a really helpful list, so don't be afraid to speak up if you have questions.
