You shouldn't be hearing it unless you really try though. If you unplug the machine and the clock resets, you defiantly need to replace the battery, that may even make the whining go away. Do I > need to > install some drivers or something to get fast Ethernet? You may have the E100 card. It was an add on from UMAX that sat in the top slot. It gave you 100BT ethernet and faster SCSI. You needed to have an enabler in order for it to function. Someone here should have that somewhere.
