i'm going to have to register an objection here.
largely forgotten today, multics and tenex/tops-20 are two earlier OS
systems that were both very well designed. un*x, like tenex/tops-20, was
spiritually a derivative of multics. multics had security features that
exceeded those of most operating systems that have come since then.
