Hi,
I wouldn't know about the TT drivers but ram gone bad typically
throws up address errors as the '0' or '1' at a particular address cannot
be accessed or changed. This state may not be fixed and could be
occasional as an address - and thence the whole stick - goes down the pan.
If the address is gone (fixed state) TechTool will find it instantly
and fail the ram tests for your setup as it cannot change the 1 to a 0 or
vice versa. From there it is an easy task to pull all the ram and test
each stick in slot A1 until the culprit is found - it may then be blitzed
with a lump hammer depending upon how much hassle it caused. If the state
is occasional it can be tested at length with ramometer.
Symtoms which could be caused by bad ram include OS install failure,
startup freeze, application freeze, address errors and file not
found,doesn't exist errors,copy errors,disk errors,checksum failures and
compression/decompression failures.
Although it's a lengthy and tiresome task if you have lots of
software installed I find it preferable given persistent software
problems to startup from a boot cd, wipe the hd with zeros (a very long
job on a big hd and not possible with ide) and install a pristine OS and
test the ram at the same time - for this you must have TechTool and it's
preferences on the boot and your cd rom must be bootable and respond to
the cd boot commands of 'c' (Matsushita drives will respond to 'c' in a
Umax setup) or command/option/shift/delete/scsi id (most others should
respond to this).
If the hd and the ram test out ok software can be installed and
tested for conflicts piece by piece.

Pete in the UK (who has just had to do all of the above and has lump
hammer blisters)

Anyone got any ram to sell?
