Hi Chuck,

The first error indicates the OS can't find the containing folder; the
second indicates that the OS is seeing two files where there ought to be
only one. Put them together and it sounds like your drive needs some help.

The most thorough way to go about this is to boot from another drive, update
the disk driver, run your favorite disk repair utility, and replace the
desktop database. If you use something other than Disk Warrior (DW) and you
see that repairs have been made, be sure to run the utility until the drive
seems free of errors several times in a row; many times problems are hidden
by other problems and are not detected on the first pass until another
repair has been made. DW works a little differently; either it fixes it or
it doesn't.
