I upgraded an S900 to G3/400. The G3 actually draws less power and runs cooler than the 604e according to my docs. It runs without problems even with the SCSI ribbon leaning against it. The G3 doesn't need the fan that comes with the 604e daughtercard, as its heatsink works quite well. The heatsink feels cooler than the one under the fan on the 604e.
