That matches my recollection.  I only remember it at all because I was
surprised that most of our internal 250MHz cards didn't come with fans while
almost all of the earlier ones did.  At first I figured the Taiwan line was
just playing cheap again, but one of our lead engineers heard my griping and
set me straight.  It took us a long time to get reliable 250MHz processors
in volume, but we eventually managed to build a really garish promotion
around them. (Anyone remember "Go!  Go 250, go!  King of the hotrods!"
blaring from the Umax booth's speakers at Seybold NY '97?)

For a while we were testing Peltier junctions as alternatives to fans, but
the newer, cooler processors ultimately made them unnecessary.

The G3 was, in some ways, inspired more by the 603 design than the 604's,
and the 603's lower power consumption was one of its nicer inheritances.
