My S900 is fairly whacked out as most of yours are, a bit of a monster in terms of the era it came from. Good sized harddrives, an internal Zip, a new fast CDROM, healthy amounts of RAM, a decent G3 upgrade, and an ATIXClaimVR-128 video card as well as a TwinTurbo card. This, due to the eBay sensibilities of our times, leaves only two solid options in my mind...
1) Strip it down and sell some RAM, drives, video cards, processor, etc. all separately for what you can get, probably several hundred dollars. After which you could still be left with a stock minimal S900 for some computerless person that might want to surf the Net and play Klondike once in a while. Give it to them with a smile. 2) Make it into an music server and/or dedicated CD burning station. I'm attempting the mp3 server option. All my favorite stuff taking up gigs of space, accessed on my LAN, and piped through my main stereo system. Think of it as a giant iPod dedicated to your local network and home stereo. A veritable remote access jukebox containing thousands of high bit rate favorites for one's beck and call. Beats the hell out of listening to them on computer speakers, or getting up and changing music CD's every few minutes. If I had to choose a third option, it would be give it to some poor bloke who'll never get a computer that good, show him the basics, and let him be amazed at what he can learn and accomplish with an S900. Great for the poor fellow, and good for your karma. I will not, however, accept one or two hundred bucks for a built-up machine that is still, 6 years after it's birth, very capable of being a workhorse for a great many tasks. While I truly feel that my S900's owe me nothing at this point, they've been so good to me, that I feel I owe them something. And that is to put them to work in some way, and let the monetary part be a distant concern. -Howie -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
