Sorry to hear that, keep an eye on the OWC web site...
http://eshop.macsales.com
... I was going to buy a blank SyJet disk there, and discovered they had new
SyJet drives for a little more than the cost of a blank disk. The drive
comes with one blank disk, so it made more sense to just buy another SyJet.
Like you, I find they are a pretty good backup device, although like you
discovered, they are a bit fragile. But so are the Iomega Jaz drives.

To which I add,

While I agree that SyJets may be a little delicate, both of mine, one
internal and one external are doing fine after years of service (as is my
JAZ). I would suggest, however, that these drives (and Orb, JAZ, etc.) are
not really intended for daily use. They are more for 'off-line' storage that
is readily accessible. My Orb drive has reminded me of this from time to
time if I overuse it; as if it were a 'real' hard drive. I'm fairly certain
that Mark was, at least in the past, using his SyJet as a full time HD.

And Mark, I assume that your reference to moving to FireWire from SCSI
refers to the fact that you are replacing equipment. The fact that it was a
SCSI drive had nothing to do with its failure. But FW will definitely be
easier to maintain and support moving forward. Keep in mind that the
removable drives are much slower than fixed disk drives irrespective of the
unit's interface.
