Just disconnect the cable from the motherboard and store it somewhere.

I bought some of those when I built machines from empty J700 cases 
from Small Dog a year or so ago.   Unfortunately, I did not note down 
the exact size.  The thickness is #6 or #6 - 32 as that's the thread 
and size that screws into the holes in the bottom of standard hard 
drives.  The length is what I'm unsure about.  It's 1" or 1.25" I 
think.

Are these difficult to find in the UK?  Any hardware store that 
carries fasteners stocks them here, but we've barely made a baby step 
towards metric despite good intentions starting three decades ago.
