Hi Steve;

Many have answered this question, but let me take a try at it.

Face the upright S900 and lay it on the right side. A surface that
has some elbowroom on the sides when the box is on it's side is
helpful.

Unscrew the Thumb screww at the middle on the back (now upper) edge
until it is fully unscrewed, it is a captive screw and will not come
loose from the lid.

With an arm on each side side, grasp the box with four fingers on the
(now) bottom portion of the box. I helps to pull the box and hold it
to your body for leverage, especially if the box has not been opened
often.

Place your thumbs in the curved indentations at the rear corners of
the cover and press inward with firmness pull back with the fingers
and simultaneously use the thumbs to push the lid away from you. The
lid need to go no more than an inch to the rear ( more like a half
inch).

At that point the the lid will lift clear of the box.

Installation is the reverse of the above, except that once the lid is
placed in position with a gap at the front edge of about the same
Inch to Half inch and pressed down then pull the lid toward you.
Again use your body to hold the box, and seat the lid to the box
front lip and then tighten the thumbscrew.

As you upgrade and swap memory, PCI cards and all the other fun
things you can do with the S900, the rear hooks wear some and it
becomes easier.
