To give you a somewhat more useful response than my whining about Newsell...

The board you want is called the Venus Board. They aren't commonly
available. As far as I know they are a Umax part and not a case
part. That is, you probably can't get them from Palo Alto Products
(the maker of the case).

However, the board is a pretty simple minded little thing. I've even
considered running off a bunch of them, but there's just no market
that would allow me to even recoup the costs, much less make anything
for the effort (I might do it for costs, just because I enjoy that
kind of thing).

Anyway, the point is that the board is so simple that unless you
physically broke the circuit board, anyone who is reasonably skilled
at soldering should be able to fix the thing. IIRC, your microphone
jack is broken. You could probably scavenge a replacement off of an
old (and inexpensive) 6100 motherboard. The only issue here is that
some models had a stacked speaker/microphone jack that was all one
piece (e.g. 7200) which would not be usable as a replacement and
others have separate microphone nad speaker jacks, which is what you
need. I'd recommend just getting it at a parts store, which is what
you could do if it was the speaker jack you needed, but the Apple
Microphone jack on these machines is an odd bird because it supplies
power to the microphone. So scavenging one off of an old machine is
probably your best option.

So if you're handy with a soldering pencil or know someone who is
that's probably your best route.

Sorry about highjacking your thread earlier. Mentioning Newsell to
me is like waving a red cape in front of a bull. I want them to
suffer grievously, but that shouldn't interfere with folks getting
the help that they need.
