Hi Phillip,
I did think about putting it into a firewire enclosure I have but steered
away from that for a few reasons.

The dvd/ram drive is Apple Rommed and it also reads cd/rom's, so on the ide
bus, I can boot from it and was wanting that. And yeah I couldn't do that
on firewire. I have a Sony Spressa Firewire cdrw drive but it is s-l-o-w
and I wouldn't want to put that on the ide bus in a swap.

The read speed of the dvd/ram's cd/rom side is better than what I now have
on the ide bus plus the unit is very quiet.

But this is not the only reason for upgrading my ATA/IDE card. I had
recently purchased a 60 gb ATA/100 Seagate drive and the drive was crashing
every time I ran a media scan. In all likelihood, the ATA/66 card was
having problems with the ATA/100 drive. I could see that problem cropping
up again and again in the future with other peripherals.

So I hope to find out from other listers which has been the most compatible
and otherwise best ATA/133, 100 card out there? Then I will definitely
verify with the manufacturer that it is at least compatible with this Apple
Rommed DVD/RAM drive. I had already checked with OWC but they had no idea.

Barring any other issues, I assume (scary word) that I shouldn't have
problems with most other hard drives out there.

So anyway, I'm killing two birds with one stone by upgrading my IDE card.
But if anybody knows of any pitfalls/incompatibilities I may face with a
faster ATA card on an s900 with a G3 450 upgrade (and future G4), I sure
would like to hear them.

Thanks,
Dave

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
