Well, I've isolated the problems I'm having writing to my Panasonic/Matshita
LF-D211A DVD-RAM drive.

If you recall, it was giving me a message that I could not write to it
because this "Disk is Locked". I could copy data from it to my hard disk, I
could do the same with a cd, and a formatted dvd/ram disk shows up and
mounts just fine on my desktop. But something is preventing me from writing
to the disks.

I had thought maybe it was a messed up pin in the drive that tells the
computer if a disk is copy protected. That isn't the problem. I now know
this because I took the drive over to a friends who has an Apple G4 tower.
We plugged it in and immediately began copying data to the dvd drive.

My first thought then was that I'm missing some extensions. But I've since
installed everything he has and still no change. I guess there may still be
some driver I am unaware of.

But now I'm wondering if maybe my VST Ultratek (Promise Card) ATA/66 does
not recognize this DVD/RAM Drive? If anybody has any knowledge about this
or where I can look up compatible drives, please let me know.

I can't think of anything else it could be. One thing that both the prior
owner and my friend had in common was that they both had OS 9.2 installed
whereas I have 9.1. But I think this drive would have come out as
compatible with 9.1. Anybody know any different. Apple website is useless
on this drive.

Thanks

Dave
