I just picked up an OWC Mercury Elite 80GB Firewire drive in December am really happy with it (using a VST Firewire/USB combo card). I tried it right out of the box and had some freezing problems while capturing large files, but once I installed the Intech drivers (extensions) that came with it, flawless performance. I do have trouble capturing digital video (Sony Digital 8) directly to the drive. It tends to lock up the computer with my S900, but I attribute this to a FW card/bus speed issue on the S900 because I have captured several hours of video directly to the drive on the G4's at work with no problems at all. DV >playback< from the FW drive while editing is no problem on the S900, however. I also must say that I am extremely impressed with OWC's service. The order was placed Tuesday night (actually Wednesday 1am) and the order arrived here on Thursday. What makes this really impressive is that "here" is on the West Coast of Canada (Vancouver), so it had to go through border processing once it crossed the continent. The shipping via Fed Ex was the only available option and it wasn't cheap, but it was worth it on the order I made. I can't believe the number of U.S. on-line companies who don't take Canadian credit card orders and/or won't ship to Canada - it's very frustrating when you have money to spend and they obviously don't want/need your business. OWC has proven to me that it can be done, and for that they have earned my undying loyalty and future patronage - well done! (PS the 512 MB of RAM I purchased from them is also humming along very nicely thank you ...=). -- Gregg -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
