Hold down the key combination shift-option-command(apple, or clover)-delete
right after the chime and until you see the "happy mac." This should force
the computer to stratup from a drive other than the one previously set by
the Startup control panel.

Some one else may know of a shortcut, but I would be inclined to start over,
testing it first after the 9.1 install before proceeding with the updates.
That would be safest.

It's not clear to me whether you are applying the updates over ethernet
while booted from the target drive. This would not be ideal. It would be
safer to copy the updaters via ethernet to the 9.1 drive and apply them
while booted from there.
