Hi there: I have to tell you first that I know absolutely nothing about these. So: A friend of mine has given me an Iomega zip drive. The model number might be 100. It's dark blue, about 5 1/2 inches wide and about 7 1/2 inches deep, with a power cord and what looks like a SCSI cable of some kind. There are two ports on the back, one labeled ZIP and one with the SCSI icon, plus two switches for termination and SCSI ID (I know a little teeny bit about SCSI). There's a slot on the front that looks like it accommodates something a trifle bigger than a floppy disk, but I don't have anything to go there. All I have is the drive and the two cords/cables. No manuals either. I do not know when it was last used, but I would guess 3-4 years ago. I use a C500/240 running 8.6 with 112 mB RAM.
How do I use this thing? Is it useful or hopelessly out of date? Can I get the disks (or whatever) that go in the front? Should I just pitch it? Do I need to install software to be able to use it? I assume this is a backup device only, one that is roomier than a floppy. My only backup medium is floppies so if I have doped things out OK so far it would be a good thing to have, I think...though someone once told me about places on the WWW that you can use for backups.
