I don't have much experience with the C's myself, but I remember that the Alchemy board was considered a dead end after the C500 and C600. The C510 was going to be based on the much more versatile new Tanzania II board in the J710. The alchemy board just wasn�t considered robust enough to carry the line forward. I wasn't there yet, but I've wondered if maybe that board was designed too quickly. The engineering team's real interest was in ubersystems like the S900.
