Hi,

Santa brought me a cable/DSL router for Christmas. A few weeks ago I
signed up for DSL for our computers at home. After much cursing and
loss of sleep, I nearly have everybody functioning. That is except the
C600...

Quick Specs:
DSL is through SBC Ameritech via Earthlink
Using Earthlink's crappy modem
Router is an Asante FR1004AL (4 port hub kind with wireless
capabilities)

Signed up with Earthlink as if we only had one computer (not wanting to
give them another $9.95 a month on top of the regular DSL costs) I was
told that they don't care if you install a router and network.
However, they offer no tech support for networking unless you pay the
extra money. Hey I could send Dan the $120 a year, I get better
support from this list anyway.

What works...

No problems with the Lombard laptop using a Skyline PC card wireless
modem and a beta driver for OS 10.2.3

No problems with the 9600 using the original (but slower) 10-BaseT
Ethernet port, and OS 9.1

Have even been able to get an OrangePC compatibility card, running
Windows 98, living inside the 9600, to use the router.

Questions, questions, questions...

The Ethernet card in the C600 is the original Asante 10-BaseT card.
Has anyone used that to connect to a router using PPPoE?

We are still using the original Extension that came with the Asante PCI
card. Extension is version 2.3, dated February 5, 1997. Although
that is an "old" extension it seemed to work fine for the simple home
network we used for the last couple of years, for file and printer
sharing.

Does anybody know if this card had a name? I was lost on Asante's web
site looking for drivers.

Anybody have any thoughts?

Nancy
