Hi;
Removing the power cord interrupts the "trickle" charge. Now no fresh 
charge is being added to any circuits.

Pressing the cuda switch shorts any remaining charge, in cuda 
controled circuits, to chassis ground. It discharges any real 
componant capacitors and stray circuit capacitance. The "residual 
charge" does not have to be, actually it cannot be, discharged to 
"Earth Ground" by the "green" ground wire.

The ground strap prevents any static charge to build up on your body, 
referenced to chassis ground, ie circuit ground. That static charge 
would destroy chips if it was accidentally discarged through the 
chips.

Some capacitors have "Dielectric memory" , thus a long Cuda depress 
to help total discharge.
