As long as what you're using it for is doing the job, then the machine and OS version becomes less important. > >A) I have Norton Utilities 3.5, and recently downloaded the 3.5.2 updates. >(And my 71 Plymouth runs pretty well, thank you.) But in order to run Norton >Disk Doctor and Speed Disk, isn't it better to run them from the CD than >from the HD? Which means the updates wouldn't be available...? I wish I had a '71 Plymouth. Find a nice 383 V8, Edelbrock manifold under a Holley dual pumper, 3200 lb clutch mated to a Jericho transmission...oh, sorry, I'm in a time warp... I gave in to my weakness and bought NU 7. Since I'm still in OS 9, Disk Warrior has solved virtually all disk problems. NU has a pretty interface but DW & TechTool are the tools that make you run in the middle of the street shouting hallelujah. > >2) I have decided I have been living on the dge for too long, and want to >install a virus program. My father can get Virex for $30 as opposed to (I >think) $50. Is Virex any good or should I ante up and get Norton Anti-Virus? Only for piece of mind. The reality is that OS 9.x and below have virtually no in the wild virii nor will there be as X continues gaining as the standard MacOS. That said, since X has the BSD layer there now exists a much greater potential for Unix based worms & virii to get ported and tweaked for X. Fact is, when you're less than 5% of the desktop base you get ignored by the bad people. But that BSD layer will change things. We will have start paying attention to issues we've gladly and happily ignored. All of the above is my opinion and should be treated as such--YMMV. -- Pax, Pastor Mac Made on a Macintosh, of course. -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
