There are a few paths to take, they mostly involve OS X, but probably the best hardware choice would be to buy a Digital Video Camera, yet they are awfully expensive. One can rent such a beast though, get the work transferred to hard drive, and return it. Just a thought. I just got an EyeTV, it's basically a Personal Video Recorder for OS X, kinda like a little brother to the TiVo digital VCR. It allows me to dump my old VHS tapes to my Mac and burn Video CD's, which are just CDr's that contain an hour of video playable on most home DVD players. For the money I'm very pleased. There's tons of reviews of the EyeTV, just do a Google search if you need more info.
