As a followup, if you have a 9.1 CD, this may be an opportunity to
reformat your hard drive and start from scratch, installing 9.1 afterwards.
An external SCSI device, ideally a CD drive/burner, would be necessary.
Also, if you are able to boot from a CD, the HD itself or contents
within becomes highly suspect.
