I think something in FAQ format makes sense. We could divide the FAQ up onto sections (like by model type, by HW vs. Software, by OS version, etc.). List the questions all in one place, the answers in another. The answers could each be on a separate page, so that loading the whole document doesn't take very long, and this would also allow for pictures where appropriate (ie: How to replace PRAM battery in my C500, or What is the "Venus Board").
I'd consider taking on some of the workload, time permitting.
