Sorry to report I have the same problem with my Acard ATA 66 PCi card. 9 I've not heard it call Big Claw before ! ) I've tried both a TDK CDRW Burner and a Pioneer DVDR/RW/CDRW drive . Both read audio and data fine but show that same error when I try burning in Toast or Missing Media Burner in OSX. I have a DVD/CD player that works fine but it isn't a burner. You mention you have the Sonnet ATA 100 card does it burn disks with your Burner? The Acard web site used to list Burners that worked with the ATA 66 card but the lsit was short and mostly older burner. It looked like the list happen been updated in a long while. Sorry I can't be of more help. I put my DVDR burner in a firewire box and it now works great no problems at all. In fact it is seen as an Apple SuperDrive by my machine! Will S
