Wow, you were right. It isn't dead. But I regret that I have no idea why not. Just opened it up, took the PCI cards and extra memory out, plugged a few cables in and out (though none I hadn't done before) started it, put the cards back in. It works...sort of. That always makes me nervous, be it automobile or computer, when I don't know what I've done right.
But there's a new, and also weird from my perspective, problem. It bombed on restart even with extensions off. So I tried a restart from the original C500 disc, holding the "C" key down. Success. Sort of. Because with the "C" key down it starte fine. But apparently from my hard drive. And yet I can't eject the CD. It says it will reappear on the desktop on restart when I drag it into the trash. So it's using some kind of resource from the CD while starting from the hard drive I guess. I'll wangle this one out, even if I have to reinstall system, but do these symptoms make any sense? Anyhow, thanks so much Steve, Alan, Pastor, et. al. What I would have left for dead is alive!
