CacheDoubler was for performance given the limits of the 603e processor. Umax included the module for the later C600 models (I have the 240) and that 1 MB cache made the machine scream compared to the other Performa 6400 clones. Indeed, I could approach native G3 processor benchmarks. That said, everything behind the processor/cache significantly bottled things up. The bus was not well engineered and the PCI slots were not fully compliant with the PCI specs. It was, for lack of a better word, a cheaply built box. It is, however, a great box to fool around with and tinker and learn.
