John, I've ran MacOSX on several of my own systems from a S900s to an MDD and other machines in between like a Graphite G4 and a BeigeG3.
The best machines to run MacOSX on have been of course the AppleG4s, then the BeigeG3 and thereafter the S900/G3. For some time I was able to run an S900/604 with MacOSX 10.1 but it was very slow but more stable than the S900/G3. I would have to say that sluggish performance on PCI Macs has to do with the narrow bandwidth of the system bus, and no native AGP for Quartz Extreme. We have several iMacs at work that are very capable office MacOSX systems and seem to feel faster than my S900 with a G3/440. If you have been able to setup a PCI Mac to run with excellent stability I would value that over speed and save your coins for a system that was designed with MacOSX in mind. -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
