With PCI QE I was able to run the Marine Aquarium screensaver as my 
background pattenr, while I was using iTunes (eq meter, but not the 
visualizer). I could do actual work while it ran between 25-30fps. 
Floored me! Especially since I have a G3/300 with one of the flashed 
Sapphire 32MB Radeon 7000 cards!

Try the PCI extreme program, you can get it from version tracker. Worst 
case, it doesn't make much of a difference, you can always turn it off 
again.
