Hi Dan,
I experienced similar disappointment with the card when I first
installed it - tried the scalable mpeg with QT 6 player and it was choppy
at large scale with the QT sample movie - very odd I thought with 64 meg
of dedicated fast ram and the Pixel engine.
My problem was that I hadn't got all the extensions enabled under
OS9.2.2 - and I mean all - QT, QD3D, OpenGL and all the ATI and apple QD
display extensions. I reinstalled the drivers with the 2003 update from
the ATI site and enabled everything and the scalable QT player fizzed at
full size and Pshop filters rendered instantly. I don't pretend to know
exactly how all these extensions mesh together - but they do seem to
require each other or the card acts like 8 megs of vram.
     I can't comment on X as I don't use it...

     Pete in the UK
