I am using mostly Apple's Mail for email and OmniWeb's browser for
browsing. But then I am working mostly in OS 10.2 now. Still using
Netscape 4.7 in the 9600, which is still using 9.1 (one of these days
I will try putting OSX on the 9600) Netscape 4.7 is about 30% faster
for me with the DSL connection. But seems pokey compared to OmniWeb in
OSX.

The real noticeable difference for me was with downloads. Just before
hooking up the DSL I downloaded an update from Adobe. The download
time for the 45 MB file was about 2 hours. With the DSL it took about
20 minutes to download a similar update. Not a very scientific
comparison as they were two different downloads on two different
evenings.

How long is the computer napping? I just connected the 9600 to the
web, using Netscape 4.7, and let it go to sleep. I did not get
disconnected when it slept. Of course, only the monitor was sleeping.
Play around with the Energy Saver Control Panel. I have the monitor
sleeping at 5 minutes, and the system at 30 minutes. I can't seem to
find a screen saver that works well in the 9600 so I just use the
system sleep.

IMHO The hard wired connects are faster and more reliable. You also get
much better security with wired.

I always get those warnings with Internet Explorer in OSX, which I use
as little as possible. I am forced to use it on some sites as OmniWeb
has some flaky issues with Java on some sites. I found Netscape in OSX
to be, well, gross. I have played with Safari but feel like it was
such a rip-off of OmniWeb that I would rather use OmniWeb.
