As far as I know, they no longer make CD-R only drives, the whole 
industry moved to CD-R/RW.

RW has it's place, I use them to backup my MP3 collection, or to just 
transfer a few files to another machine. It's nice not having to waste 
a whole CD-R for a one time use.

CD-RW can be recorded as a multi-session disc. Due to software 
limitations, you still need to format the whole CD-RW in order to 
change a few files, PCs can do this though (it referred to as packet 
data). I wish I knew how to make my Mac do that, because being able to 
use a CD-RW that way would let me get rid of my Zip drive.
