No, there is no output at all, and OS X won't even boot with the card installed. OS 9 only boots with most extensions disabled but again, the flash on the Mac-side didn't work so any monitor connected to it currently stays black. As I mentioned I put the card back in the other PC briefly and attempted to finish the job there since I already had the Mac ROM on the same floppy, but the machine wouldn't boot or come close to giving me a prompt. A friend suggested trying a different PC, one with perhaps newer BIOS that might not be as particular about a now-foreign card in a PCI slot. Is there a way to boot into BIOS and tell it to ignore that slot if necessary. Seems that's be a double-edged sword; if it worked the flash utility might not later see the PCI slot in question? I'm grasping here. I also now have access to a boot floppy and can try adding the flash stuff to it. >You will know if the Mac Rom is flashing correctly as it will show a >progress bar in a small window. Will, when you had to run it several times, what sort of indication was it giving you that it wasn't working? Merely a blank screen afterwords or an error message like I received? Granted I only ran it about three times but there wasn't anything encouraging about the error message. Never saw a progress bar. >Apple system profiler will then show the rom file number and that it is >an Aty card. There should be no reason to turn extensions off in fact >this may be the problem. I had started with a fresh 9.2.2; had been running fine for a few days, some unused things disabled. First few times I didn't get any icons, not even the first you see (Open Transport). However since the ROM updater would fail with some sort of "InterfaceLib" or some such error when launched it was clear I had to go back and re-enable some things. Since the Updater runs in both 9 and X I knew it was Carbon so CarbonLib was obvious. I added Quicktime back and that got it going. Guess I'll keep adding things until it crashes again (But see below for my request...) >Another possible problem the Mac Rom flasher currently at ATI may or >may not work on the Sapphire card. Everything I've done seems to indicate that the procedure on the PC side went OK but that the "208" Updater I downloaded was not happy with what it found, and I'm not surprised. >You can get this to work but may take some work. Will S Thanks for the encouragment and if you'd be willing to send me your Updater at your leisure I'd very much appreciate it. -David -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
