Agreed. It's like comparing a stock car and an Indy racer. One takes ugly off the shelf parts, adds some reinforement, puts in lots of protection, and chugs around the track hoping to be first to the finish line. The other is designed for speed. No standard car body reinforced for racing. No bigger wheels on a drive train made for the road. The whole system is designed to perform very responsively and look damn good doing so. You'd never think to race the two side by side. The Indy car will run away from the stock car -- but the stock car will do a lot better in a collision. Same kinda thing with Macs and PCs. We make our choice based on our desires. >Last point: the real news of the week has nothing to do with Macs or PCs, >but with a company that is offering a $199 Linux box (without monitor), with >a decent graphical interface. Where have you been for the past 15 years? The "Wintel" world has always been about disposable computers. That's why Low End PC goes nowhere -- but Low End Mac gets huge amounts of traffic. Some people buy new cars every few years, too, and some hold on for the long haul. Neither is wrong, only different. Here we like the Macintosh way of doing things. Solid products.
