See user reports with no third-party verification on www.spec.org. These
systems may be overclocked, but some people believe that because they've
been posted on the Internet, they must be correct.

Not true.

Apple had their testing lab go so far as to test the P4 both with and
without Hyperthreading, under both Windows and Linux, and published the
best result. With the Xeon, they tested as both single and dual processor
configurations and again published the best result, whether obtained in
Windows (yeah, right) or Linux.

The fastest Intel CPUs available at the time of testing were 3.06 GHz
P4s. The 3.2 GHz model was released last Monday, the same day Apple
announced the G5. And you expect the lab somehow had one to test against
the G5?

I'm sure we'll see further comparisons when the G5 design is finalized,
OS X 10.2.7 is finalized, and production product is available. Look for
PC Magazine and others to do real world testing in August or September
when the dual 2.0 GHz G5 is actually available -- and compare it to the
fastest PC systems on the market.

That will tell us a lot more than SPEC benchmarks or Photoshop actions
that run twice as fast.

Bill Gates was so impressed by the iMac that they were going
to offer the blue-screen-of-death in a choice of colours. ;-)
