I've finally added a checkmark next to one of the items on my life's ToDo List: acquire a ethernet network laser printer. I am now an owner of a Lexmark Optra S 1625 and after some brief diagnostics, the toner cartridge has still 90% and has under 100k total use. Bought it for $175--dunno if it was a deal or not but it works well on the home network but after significant effort to work with Lexmark print server. Somehow the print server would not acquire a DHCP-based IP so I rooted around on the Lexmark website to see what tools were available and there was a software based diagnostic tool (Windows only) and found the onboard server must have come off a Novell (don't get me started) network and had a WINS address. I turned off the Novell IPX/SPX but I can't clear the WINS address. I just assigned a static 192.168.x IP and the network now prints fine. Let's just say HP's Printer Utility for Mac is far ahead in ease of use to set up network printers.
As usual, I digress (preachers never are brief) but i would like to ask where one might find printer accessories for such a beast. Lots of places sell toner cartridges but if I wanted to buy a larger paper drawer or a duplex unit, who would have such stuff? I looked over CDW but they are geared towards current generation supplies. Suggestions?
