I may have missed part of this thread but here goes if it helps at all.
If you have a factory Matshita drive, you need to use a third party CD driver
such as FWB's CD-ROM ToolKit with its extension.
It was bundled with the factory CD.
Apple's CD driver will not work and if it is also present (or active) in the
Extensions folder, this will become the default driver even if CDT is active. I
would just remove the Apple stuff out of the folder.
Check your Extensions folder control panel and see what's going on.
