You really don't need one, unless you want to share your internet connection, desire a firewall, or wan't to eliminate the PPPOE software. Another question - when I downloaded IE, it expanded into a .smi or self-mounting disk image file. It automagically mounted, and then I just dragged the IE folder to the HD.
