If you drag it to the trash, but don't empty the trash, then it is still
there should you need it. In the meantime the system, and IE don't see
it and thus should replace anything that they need. Your internet prefs
contain other settings such as your homepage and such iirc, and you can
save yourself some typing, by moving that file back if it proves to not
be the source of your problems. If you've been getting the grinding
sound from your HD while doing other things, then it may indeed be a
sign of impending HD failure, and not necessarily an IE only problem. It
might be wise to find a way to backup your data before the drive fails.
