A dual purpose FW/USB card will normally only work in the top two slots. I had an Orange Micro FW/USB. Their "tech department" kept coming up with excuses (er, suggestions) such as "upgrade your system software to ..." and "your processor speed is too slow". Even after I did these things (including upgrading to a NewerTech G4/400, the card didn't work properly. Interesting thing, >none< of their literature, including on the box, said anything about these rigid requirements, only "it will work with any PCI machine". To make a long story shorter, they refused to give me an RMA, and I ended up giving the card to my brother (using a PC) ... even in that machine it only "sorta" works.
Sonnet is impervious to outside input on this topic. "Neal", assuming that is a person and not just a front identity for tech support is a @#%^$%^&% idiot on this topic. I laid it all out for him in detail. Took care to distinguish it from the lower slot issue with G4s in 9500/9600s and he either still couldn't get it or blew me off.
Sonnet is a stone wall of obstinate ignorance on this topic.
