While I suspect something like this was the case for his other complaints, his complaint about the lower slot issues is legitimate. Umax made it sound like the PCI-PCI Bridge chip was a superior solution over having two Bandits, when, in fact, it has caused a menagerie of compatibility problems.


In Umax's defense, I think the problems are caused by a firmware error on Apple's part. It probably never occurred to Umax to test PCI cards two bridge chip layers deep. And there were almost no (perhaps none at all) PCI cards with bridge chips on the market at the time. I think there was the 3940UW in that time frame. If Umax had generalized from that card, they might have figured out the problem.
