Which version of the XLR8 software are we talking about? The released by XLR8 just before they shut down well over a year(maybe 2 ) ago and only works with OSX 10.0 ? or The new XLR8 /Daystar new release that costs $17.95 or so? The first is of no use except for the first release of OSX or so and the second I've not tested but XLR8/Daystar seems to be doing well and I'd be surprised if it didn't work and I'm guessing if you bought it they support it ;-) I agree that L2CacheConfig by Ryan of XPFacto works fine and it was for a while the only choice. However it's not the best choice for a UMAX machine with soldiered on motherboard cache. It isn't possible to turn off this motherboard cache with L2 CacheConfigure. I was amazed how much faster my machine runs with this motherboard cache turned off. Powerlogix.com has the free Cache Control software which works great and lets you turn motherboard L2 cache off which lets you take full advantage of the L2 cache on your G3/4 upgrade. It's like gaining 50-100 MHz easy! later Will S
As of now I have Daystar's XLR8 Speed Control for X, version 3.03 installed. I did not have a chance however to work on the S900 by removing all unecessary pci cards and scsi devices. I use the S900 frequently, even for now in 9.1 to do graphic work. The G4 is in the machine right now, but I need to get some free time to work on getting X running. Current configuration to my S900: XLR8 MAChCarrier G4 (no mpe or sse) 288 megs of ram 1st pci slot: ATI Rage 128 w/16 mb 2nd: Belkin USB/Firewire combo card 3rd: Acard AEC6260M Ultra ATA66 controller with 80 gig Western Digital HD on scsi: Apple 600i cd-rom (Matshita cr-8005) Stock 2 gb Quantum Fireball HD (last in chain and teriminated) Iomega Zip 100 Yamaha 4x4x16 cd-rw Floppy drive -Darwin PS- Has anyone seen or heard from Paul S? I think he's using the XLR8 upgrade in his S900 too. -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
