Attention to original poster Steve Jarvis -

This, I must point out, may not solve the problem for some.

Did not work in my case on the 24X Matshita drive, and believe me, I tried all
different versions that were properly extracted from installation CDs and also
versions sent to me by folks on this fine List.
Also tried the ResEdit (sp?) trick to modify one of the Apple drivers to no
avail.
(I went through all this trouble mainly out of curiosity - not because I
absolutely needed to.)

If the original FWB driver (or newer) can be found on your drive somewhere, you
will at least regain use of the CD drive until you download/experiement with
the 5.3.1 driver.

We would like to hear how it goes if you don't mind reporting back.

Regards,

Alan
